Dorothy Louise McKee, 69, of Decorah, Iowa died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.

She was born on January 29, 1944 to Henry and Pearl (Doll) Koethke in Prineville, Oregon. She graduated from Brookings Harbor High School, Brookings, Oregon and then received her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree at Monmouth State College in Oregon.

Dorothy was united in marriage with John Michael McKee on January 16, 1976 at Ossian Lutheran Church, in Ossian, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Kelly, Patrick and Martha.

Dorothy was a speech pathologist for Joint County and Keystone AEA until her retirement. She was a member of the Keystone Area Association, holding numerous positions, including President and Chief Negotiator. Dorothy served several terms on the Iowa State licensure board.

She had many hobbies thru the years. Her most recent was constructing and collecting miniatures.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, John “Mike” McKee of 37 years; her 3 children, Kelly (Rosemary) Rice of Huntley, Illinois, Patrick McKee of San Diego, California and Martha (Daniel) Paterson of Washington D.C.; 4 grandchildren, Conor, Abigail, Tristan and Eli and 2 brothers, Paul (Barbara) Koethke of Moses Lake, Washington and William Koethke of Glendale Oregon.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa with a visitation from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will be held at a later date.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
