Elba Oliver Riggs was born July 31, 1861, on the farm on which he died on Wednesday morning, April 5, 1916, aged 54 years, nine months and five days.
At the age of seven he moved to Castalia, where he resided until 1901, when he moved to the farm which he had purchased just a few weeks previous to his death. At the age of 16 he joined the U.B. church and was a steady, consistent Christian until his death. For 25 years he was superintendent of the Sunday school and class leader in the U.B. church. Besides his widow he leaves five children - Rev. Fred Riggs of Ralston, Rev. Hal Riggs of Botna, Mrs. Floy Barnes of Oelwein, Bessie and Paul at home; two sisters - Mrs. Mattie Hunter and Miss Jennie Riggs of Castalia; four grandchildren and many friends.
The funeral services were held in the U.B. church Friday afternoon, Rev. Hursh officiating. Interment in Pleasant View cemetery.
