Postville Review, Wed., 5 Nov. 1873.

Coroner Ferren was called on Monday to hold an inquest in Lincoln township and gives us the following particulars:-

Henry Earnest - an old man of 70 years - resided five miles west of Ridgeway. His wife and one son lived with him. On Sunday last, while the son was absent at his farm and the wife was visiting at another son's nearby, the old man hung himself to the stairs. The absent ones returned about dark and found him dead. The act must have been a resolute, determined one, because when found his head was only about two feet from the floor, and he could easily have saved himself by reaching his hands to the floor. - The body was lying prostate on the floor, and it was apparent that to accomplish his object he must have tied the noose and then thrown his whole weight on the cord. Dr. S__ckman, of Ridgeway, examined the corpse, found no other injuries on the body, and pronounced that the deceased died of strangulation. no cause for the act is known except general depression of spirit.- Decorah Republican.
