Rebecca Jane Halcolm was born in Greenbriar Co., Virginia, April 15, 1844, and died in Des Moines, Iowa, April 23, 1910, aged 66 years and 8days. In her early childhood she came with her parents to Iowa, settling in Winneshiek county, where she grew to womanhood and continued to reside until August 1902, when she removed to Des Moines, where, as above stated, she was called to her reward. She was united in marriage to D. Frank Kittinger in 1861. To this union were born five children, three girls and two boys, three of which - Mrs. James Hunter, of Castalia; Mrs. John Topliff and F. H. Kittinger, of Des Moines,- together with her bereaved husband, two sisters, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of friends survive to mourn her loss. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in early life and continued an earnest, faithful member of the same till called to the church triumphant in the skies. A true devoted wife, a kind, loving mother, an accommodating, self-sacrificing neighbor, is a brief history of her life.
