Frederick Berg, of Springfield, ends his life while suffering from Melancholy.
Frederick Berg, one of the old and well knows residents of Springfield township, ended his life Monday morning by hanging himself in his barn. Seven years ago Mr. Berg suffered from an attack of cerebral hemorrhage, and since that time has had severe spells of melancholy during which it was feared he would take his life. In fact he has tried to before but was watched so closely that each attempt failed. Monday morning he started out to repair a small break in the fence, and being gone an unusually long time a search was made. It resulted in his lifeless body being found by his wife. Dr. Jewell was summoned but of course could render no aid. Later Coroner Gibson was called, and held and inquest with the result that a jury composed of Geo, W. Anderson, J. J. Running and Peder Ode brought in a verdict of death from hanging.
Mr. Berg was sixty years of age, born is Norway, and lived for about thirty years in this county. He was a man of many good qualities and was highly respected by his neighbors, all of whom extend a world of sympathy to the widow and family in their affliction. The funeral was held Tuesday and the remains were interred by those of his two children in the cemetery at Pastor Koren’s church.
