Postville Graphic, Thur., 19 Jan. 1899.

From the Decorah Journal we learn that Walter, the eldest son of our old time friends, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Shea, died Friday morning at the home of his uncle in St. Paul, after an illness of several weeks duration from Bright's disease. The Journal says: "Walter went to St. Paul some four or five weeks ago for medical treatment, and receiving benefit, but the disease had progressed too far for permanent relief. His mother and sister, Miss Mae, were both with him when the end came. The remains were brought to Decorah Saturday evening for interment, the funeral occurring Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the Catholic church. The sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family."

Gone to their Long Home.
JOHN WALTER SHEA The death of J. Walter Shea, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Shea, on Friday last at the home of his uncle J. O. Shea, 576 Laurel avenue, St, Paul, took one of the bright boys of Decorah, one who had won friends among all classes. At times for the past year he had not been feeling well, but apparently recovered. A few weeks ago he became seriously ill, and an examination disclosed that he was suffering from Bright’s disease. He was taken to St. Paul for treatment in St. Joseph’s hospital, and was somewhat better for a time, but the disease had progressed so far that it had got beyond the physician’s skill and the end came at half past five on the morning of the 13th. The remains were brought home Saturday, and the funeral service was held Mon¬day morning at 0:30 o’clock at the Catholic church, interment being made at the Catholic cemetery. Beautiful floral pieces sent by the young ladies and young men with whom he associated betokened the place he hold in their esteem, and a large gathering of friends bespoke the general sympathy which was expressed on all sides for the afflicted ones.
