Emma Crescy was born in East Venice, Cayuga county, New York, April 21, 1861. In the spring of 1878 the family moved to Postville, Iowa, where they resided for five years, removing to Ossian in 1883, at which place she was married to Mr. Thomas R. Letchford, Nov. 29, 1883. Four children blessed this union, Mabel Edith, now Mrs. Ray Waters; Rufus Glenn; Leora May, Mrs. Harry Walters and Verne Crescy Letchford, all of whom are living. Mr. Letchford died March 1, 1902, at their farm home just west of Frankville. A brother, Lee Crescy, of Los Angeles, Calif., is the only surviving member of her father's family.
She united with the Baptist church in Postville and in 1891 became a member of the Frankville Methodist church. She was active in church work and the W.C.T.U., always willing to help any good cause.
Young and old claimed her as a friend and feel a personal loss in her death, which came as a great shock Tuesday, April 1, 1919. Funeral services were held from the M.E. church on Friday. Rev. Grant of Decorah officiating. Interment was beside her husband in Centennial cemetery.
