LeRoy L. Snyder, age 50, of Castalia, Iowa died on Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa from cancer.

LeRoy Lester Snyder was born on March 15, 1951 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Lester "Pete" and Lillian (Moore) Snyder. He was baptized later that year in Hawkeye. In 1967 he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. LeRoy attended South Winneshiek Schools, graduating in 1969. He then served in the US Army from 1969-1971 in Germany, where he met and married Monika Pless in 1971, and to this union 3 children were born: Andrea, Christopher and Tracy.

After the service he returned home to farm near Castalia. LeRoy then married Sandi (Larson) Hansmeier on December 20, 1981 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. To this union, a daughter, which they named Angel, was born, joining Jeremy and Misty Hansmeier.

LeRoy was a man of many interest including farming, machinery sales, deer hunting, 50-60's music and watching world news on CNN and MSNBC. He loved Dr. Pepper, popcorn, ice cream, good conversation and his family. LeRoy was much loved and will be greatly missed by all. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia.

LeRoy's survivors include his wife Sandi Snyder of Castalia; 2 sons, Christopher Lee Snyder of Dorchester, IA and Jeremy Hansmeier and friend Denise, of Provitin, IA; 4 daughters, Andrea (Chad) Breitsprecher of Decorah, IA, Tracy (Tony) Gilavata of Sterling Heights, MI; Misty (Shawn) Hughes of Postville, IA; and Angel Snyder of Castalia, IA; his parents, Lester and Lillian Snyder of Castalia; one brother, Keith Snyder of Castalia; and one sister, Ruth (Ed) Scott of Bruce, WI; 7 grandchildren, Blake, Lane, Logan and Austin Breitsprecher and Leah, Levi and Lanae Hansmeier.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his brother Dale Snyder and one sister, Konnie Foltz.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa with Rev. Dave Lenth presiding. Honorary casket bearers were LeRoy's deer hunting and auction buddies. Casket bearers were Jim Ulring, Dale Green, Jerry Monroe, Jeff Sweeney, Dave McTaggert, and Alfred Halverson.

Interment was at Centennial Cemetery in Castalia, Iowa.

Funeral services for LeRoy Snyder of Castalia were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 18 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia with Rev. Dave Lenth officiating. Interment was in Centennial Cemetery in rural Castalia. Balik Funeral. Home handled the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Sandi of Castalia; two sons: Christopher Snyder; of Dorchester and Jeremy Hansmeier of Protivin; four daughters: Andrea Breitsprecher of Deco¬rah, Tracy Gilavata of Sterling Heights, MI, Misty Hughes of Postville, and Angel Snyder of Castalia; seven grandchildren; his parents: Lester and Lillian Snyder of Castalia; one brother: Keith of Castalia; and one sister: Ruth Scott of Bruce, WI.
