Postville Review, Fri., 14 Aug. 1908. (condensed).

Mrs. D. A. McMartin, whose maiden name was Julia S. Brush, was born in St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., Jan. 11, 1845, and died at her home near Castalia, Iowa, July 31, 1908, aged 63 years, 6 months and 20 days, death resulting from hemorrhage of the stomach after an illness of but a few days duration.

She came to Iowa with her parents in 1851, settling in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek Co., where on Feb. 18, 1864, she was married to D. A. McMartin, who survives her. To this Union were born eleven children, five sons and six daughters, of whom four - two sons and two daughters - died in early life. Those living are Frank, of Dolton, S.D.; Mrs. W. C. Dresser, of Postville; Mrs. Kobriger, of Castalia; Bert, Elmer, Jessie and Edith at home. She is also survived by two brothers - Thos. Brush, of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Amsey Brush of Chelsea, Iowa.

The death of Mrs. McMartin marks the passing of one of the oldest residents of Winneshiek Co., who for fifty-seven years had lived in Bloomfield township, all but thirteen years on the farm where she died, the same being pre-empted from the government. She was a quiet, unassuming christian woman, universally known and respected.

The funeral was held from the Castalia U.B. church on Monday, Aug. 3rd, conducted by Rev. Wyatt, the Methodist pastor from Calmar. Interment in the Bloomfield cemetery.
