Lucille Staley, age 85, of Calmar, IA died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab in New Hampton, IA.
Memorial Mass will be 11:00a.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at St, Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar with Father Daniel Knipper presiding, burial of ashes will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery.
There will only be visitation from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the church
Lucille Audrey Staley was born December 22, 1926, the youngest of five children, to Joseph and Victoria (Janechek) Kafka. She attended St. Aloysius Grade School and graduated from Calmar High School in 1944. On February 12, 1945 Lucille was united in marriage to Ray Staley in Calmar. The couple made their home in Calmar until 1979. Several job transfers took them to Albert Lee, MN, Elkader, IA, and back to Calmar, where they spent twenty plus years enjoying retirement. Lucille was very active in her parish community, at St Aloysius in Calmar. She was a member of the local auxiliary unit and served as President in 1954. She worked outside the home as a cook at South Winneshiek High School in Calmar from 1963 until 1974. Lucille’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandma. She loved to listen to music, cook and host family get-togethers.
Lucille is survived by her husband Ray who resides at Kensington Place assisted living in New Hampton; two sons and daughters in law, Tim (Cindy) Staley of Waterloo and Galen (Deann) Staley of New Hampton; two daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Buchheit of Calmar and Vicky (Dr. Stephen Rosenberg) of Stratford New Hampshire; eight grandchildren Michael and Julie Staley; Brian, Nicole and Joseph Buchheit; Ben Staley; Daniel and Douglas Rosenberg, five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Lillian Kafka of New Prague, MN and Velma Numedahl of Pella, IA and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, and sister-in-law. Robert Kafka, Paul (Frances) Kafka; two sisters and four brother-in-laws, Marcella (Hugo) Hauber, Irma (Oscar) Schardin, Clyde (Mila) Staley and Vernon Numedahl.
