Lyle Iverson

Lyle S. Iverson, 88, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. Services for Mr. Iverson were at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Visitation was Friday, Nov. 16, from 4 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Riverbend Food Bank or to the American Red Cross.

Lyle was born March 29, 1924, in Decorah, a son of Selmer and Bertha (Wieland) Iverson. He married Nellie Johnson July 13, 1946, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death Feb. 9, 2002. Lyle worked as a crane operator for Alcoa for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed trout fishing, the outdoors and traveling.

Lyle was a World war II Navy veteran.

Survivors include his children: Carol Chandler, Milan; Connie Keto, Milan; Kathie Nitz, Milan; Jon (Gerry) Iverson, Rock Island; and Karl Iverson, Milan; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; a brother, Donald Iverson, Clio, Mich.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nellie; sisters: Helen, Florence and Lois; sons-in-law, Sam Chandler and Doug Nitz.
