Freeman Wanless

Freeman Wanless, 90, died at his home in Deming, N.M., Aug. 29, 2012. A memorial service was Sept. 15, at the River of Life Church in Deming.

Freeman was born May 14, 1922, the son of Forest and Mary (Brown, Darling) Wanless, at the farm home near Burr Oak. His first eight years of school were spent at Burr Oak No. 1 (Rollins School). He graduated from Canton High School n 1941.

Freeman served in the Coast Guard during WWII and was stationed in Greenland. After the war he married Arline Brown of Prosper, Minn. They were the parents of six children. Freeman was a salesman for a livestock feed company for many years in Winneshiek and Howard counties.

He is survived by his wife, Arline; sons: Steven, Kevin and Perry; daughters Kathy and Paula; two brothers, Marlin Wanless of Jacksonville, Texas and Earl Wanless of Orangeville, Calif.; and a half-sister Fern Darling, of Pueblo, Colo.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brad; a sister, Dorothy Ewalt; a brother, Donald Wanless; three half brothers: Alan, James and Francis Darling; and a half-sister, Velma Krause.
