Donald Burch

Donald Peter Burch, 89, formerly of Ossian, passed away Aug. 1, 2012, at Aase Haugen Homes, Decorah. Services are at a later date. Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service is helping the family with the arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.graufuneralhomes.com .

Don was born June 21, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Henry and Helen (Knoblauch) Burch. Don graduated from St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minn. and taught high school chemistry until he entered the Armed Forces in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952.

Don was united in marriage Sept. 12, 1953, to Patricia Murphy of Ossian. They made their home in Minneapolis, Minn. until 1970, when they moved to Agoura, Calif. They had four children: Kevin, Stephen, Elizabeth and Susan. After retirement in 1988, Don and Pat moved back to Ossian, where he enjoyed his free time playing golf, fishing and watching football.

Don is survived by his son, Kevin Burch of Palmdale, Calif.; his daughters, Beth (Linus) Kuhn of Waucoma and Susan Burch of DeSoto, Wis.; his grandchildren, Rachel and Patrick Burch, Jamie and Danielle Burch, Melissa Clark, Katie and Brian Kuhn and Michael Dehning; his sisters, Joanne Asplund of Seattle, Wash., Irene (Kenny) Orr of Anoka, Minn. and Kay (Larry){sic} of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Burch; his son, Stephen Burch; his parents, Henry and Helen Burch and his sister, Pearl Bell.
