Maxine E. Muether, age 89, of Decorah, IA, died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Jim Dale officiating. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 7 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Thursday after 8 AM.
Maxine Elizabeth Muether was born on June 18, 1923 in Dumont, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Lela (Hershey) Anderson. She was baptized in the United Brethren Church. She was a 1940 graduate of Dumont High School and received a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Following college she taught secondary school in Strawberry Point, Iowa for five years.
On April 5, 1947 Maxine was married to Aaron G. Muether in Dumont, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Mary, David and Jean. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa for a short time before moving to Decorah in 1949.
Maxine was a stay-at-home mother while her children were in school and then she worked as receptionist at Decorah State Bank for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was very active in UMW. She had been a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader when the children were little. She enjoyed reading and playing bridge.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aaron on August 20, 2003; and one sister, Dorothy Hardy.
Maxine is survived by two daughters: Mary (Dennis) Willson of Marion, Iowa and Jean Muether (Bob) Hunter of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, David Muether of Decorah, Iowa; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Morgan of Greene, Iowa; and by nieces and nephews.
