Funeral services for Mrs. Lloyd Schutte were held Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Robert Hupp officiated. Joan Martins was the organist with special music by Lynette Wilson. The casket bearers were Dirk Torkelson, Bruce Torkelson, Brad Schutte, Brian Schutte, Jim Olson, Larry Moore, Jeff Olson, David Olson, Dale Olson, Greg Olson. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Clarine Henrietta (Olson) Schutte, the daughter of Henry T. and Clara (Ostlie) Olson, was born March 4, 1933 on the family farm in Marion Township, Clayton County, near Gunder, Iowa. She passed away at their summer home in Park Rapids, Minnesota on May 13, 2000. She had reached the age of 67 years, 2 months, and 9 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. She graduated from Postville High School in 1949. Following graduation, she was employed in the office at the REA (Rural Electric Association) in Postville. On January 7, 1951 Clarine was married to Lloyd Schutte at the Marion Lutheran Church. To this union 3 children were born, Cindy, Michael and LuAnn. They spent their entire life on the Schutte family farm in Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa.

Clarine continued to work at the REA following her marriage, and was also employed in the office as a secretary at the Hygrade Packing Plant. She was the elementary school secretary for several years and then worked in the office as a secretary at Iowa Turkey Products until her retirement. The family spent their summers in northern Minnesota, where Clarine loved to fish and enjoyed the outdoors. As a child, Clarine had learned to play the piano and often played for local events and pageants. Following graduation, she gave a piano recital at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. She enjoyed music and encouraged her children and grandchildren to share it with her. Clarine was a good cook and liked to make lefsa and did extensive baking for the holidays. She was a gardener and seamstress, making suits for the men in the family and baptismal garments for the babies.

She is preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Hiram Olson, Gerald Olson, and Milo Olson. Surviving are her husband, Lloyd, her children, Cindy (Harold) Schmale, of Sterling, CO, Michael (Rose) Schutte of Castalia, and LuAnn (Nicholas) Rolling, of Waterville, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, John Handke, Joseph Handke, Jason Handke, Leisl Schutte, Gregory Schutte, Amanda Rolling, Ruth Rolling and William Rolling; 2 brothers, Marion (Fern) Olson of Monona, IA and Don (Jan) Olson of Postville; a sister-in-law, Eleanor (Ivan) Torkelson of Elgin, IA, and a brother-in-law, Eugene (Lillian) Schutte of Postville.

Clarine was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.
