Amanda Schutte

Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Schutte were held Tuesday, November 21, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Robert Hupp officiated. Casket bearers were Gary, Dan, Bryan and Aaron Schutte and Karen Lenth, Diane Kluth and Joshua Kluth. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Amanda (Block) Schutte, the daughter of Fred and Meta (Meyer) Block, was born November 27, 1907 in Clayton County, Iowa. She passed away Friday, November 17, 2000, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 92 years, eleven months and 20 days.

She was baptized May 12, 1908 by the Rev. R. Kuhne and confirmed September 11, 1926 by the Rev. E. Schmidt, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, where she was a lifetime member. Amanda attended the Postville Public School.

On December 16, 1931, she was married to Helmuth John Schutte in Nashua, Iowa. To this union 2 children were born, Dorothy and Leonard. The family farmed in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. They moved to Postville in 1978.

Amanda helped with the farm work, picking corn by hand and driving the team of horses when needed. She planted a large garden, had a strawberry bed and did canning as well. Amanda sewed for her family and herself. She and Helmuth enjoyed playing cards with their family and friends. Amanda became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center on October 20, 1997. She continued to play cards with her friends until the last 2 months.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Helmuth, who died August 26, 1990, a grandson, David Kluth, and a brother, Lloyd Block.

Surviving are her children, Dorothy (John) Kluth, of Farmersburg, Iowa, and Leonard (Jean) Schutte, of Castalia, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Diane Kluth, Gary (Lori) Schutte, Karen (Kim) Lenth and Dan (Vicki) Schutte; 11 great grandchildren, Joshua Kluth, Bryan Schutte, Aaron Schutte, Alayana Schutte, Breanna Lenth, Cody Lenth, Wade Lenth, Brent Schutte, Sara Schutte, Amber Schutte, Jenna Schutte; 2 step-great grandchildren, Ben Meyer and Missy Meyer, and 3 sisters-in-law, Minnie (Lloyd) Block of Prairie du Chien, WI, Esther (Walter) Schutte of Postville, and Marie (Fred) Miene of Monona, Iowa.
