Eleanore Cody

Eleanore Lansing Cody, 77, Madison, Wis., formerly of Ossian, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, in West Allis, Wis. Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, with the Very Rev. Marvin Salz officiating. Burial followed in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian. Visitation was one hour before mass time at the church Tuesday. Condolences may be left with www.graufuneralhomes.com. Schmitz – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation service of Ossian, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor “Ellie” Marie (Lansing) Cody was born Feb. 16, 1935, the daughter of Fred and Monica (Stortz) Lansing on the farm north of Ossian. Eleanore attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, where she graduated in 1952. Eleanore married Florian “Joe” Cody on Oct. 20, 1956, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian. After graduation she went to Madison, Wis., where she was employed by Schappe Pontiac Motors and Miller Pontiac Motors. She retired after 55 years of service, including serving on the board of directors.

Eleanore enjoyed millinery (designing and making) women’s hats, quilting, planting flowers and herbs, including drying the flowers and herbs to make wreaths, etc., sewing and gardening. She earned her private pilot’s license. Ellie enjoyed flying the plane with her husband, Joe and attending the Oskkosh air show. She loved helping people.

Eleanore is survived by her husband of 55 years, Florian “Joe” Cody; brother, Carroll (Anita) Lansing; and three sisters: Veronica (Shekleton) Riniker, Victoria Lansing, Margaret Lansing (John Zachar); and sister-in-laws, Joan Lansing, Caroline Lansing and Margaret Piper; and many nieces and nephews and their children.

Ellie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles Lansing, Robert Lansing, Jr.; and sisters, Madonna Collins and Angelina Lansing; brothers-in-law: Charles “Bob” Collins, James Shekleton, Paul Riniker, Ralph Cody, Stanley Kolenda and Philip Piper; sisters-in-law: Rita Lansing, Luella Cody and Mary Kathleen Kolenda; and nieces and nephews.
