Marilyn Maalo

Marilyn J. Maalo, 82, of Iola, Wis., died Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Iola Living Assistance. Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, with Reverend Dennis Olson officiating. Interment was in the Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery Town of Iola, In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Marilyn’s name. Marilyn was born June 20, 1929, in Calmar, the daughter of the late Julius and Josephine (Kolseth) Kiel. She married Edward Maalo Aug. 28, 1954, at the Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar. Marilyn graduated from the registered nurse’s program of Norwegian American Hospital in 1952. She worked at Lutheran General Hospital and St. Matthew’s nursing home in Park Ridge, Ill. When Marilyn and Ed moved to Iola May 1, 1985, she first worked at the Iola Hospital and then the Iola nursing home. She had worked as a registered nurse for 47 years.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Maalo; sisters-in-law Irene (Leonard) Haroldson, Iola, Wis., and Anny Dalland, Waupaca, Wis.; brothers-in-law Linus Rothmeyer, Calmar, and Sterling Thompson, Austin, Minn. Marilyn is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kurt Maalo and two sisters, Vila Thompson and Elsie Rothmeyer.
