Lars Johnson

Lars Johnson, son of Sondre and Anna Johnson, was born October 20, 1868, in Winneshiek county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lincoln church near Ridgeway. June 27, 1893, he was married to Elisa Quail at the Washington Prairie church near Decorah, by Rev. Paul Koren. This union was blessed with one son.

They moved from Ridgeway to a farm near Lime Springs in the fall of 1899, and since then have lived in that community. He passed away at his home December 19, 1940, after a lingering illness, at the age of 72 years and 2 months. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Mrs. Elisa Johnson, son Kasper and wife, three grandchildren, Elaine, Kathleen and LaVonne Johnson; four sisters, Laura, Mrs. Jacobus Aga of Minneapolis; Lena, Mrs. Ole Sanderson; Mary, Mrs. Iver Benson, Matilda Johnson, two brothers, John and Hans, all of Ridgeway and a host of other relatives and friends. Two sisters, Lily, Mrs. John Aga, and Anna, Mrs. John Josendah, have preceded him in death.

The funeral was held December 22, with a short service at the Lime Springs funeral home by his pastor, Rev. F. Eide and at the Lincoln Lutheran church at Ridgeway, Rev. Quill and Rev. Eide officiating. Burial was at the Lincoln cemetery. The pall bearers were John Bakken, Ole Rue, Orlando Aga, Victor Benson, Alton Sanderson and Lars Rue, all of Ridgeway.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Laura Aga of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Aga of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Olson and granddaughter Jacqueline. Many relatives from Decorah and Calmar also attended.

Funeral services for Lars Johnson, who passed away at his home near Lime Springs Thursday morning, were held at the Larson funeral home at 12:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon and 2 o’clock at the Lincoln church here. Rev. Ide will officiate at the services at Lime Springs and Rev. Quill at the services at the Lincoln church. The pall bearers were Ole Rue, John Bakken, Victor Benson, Alton Sanderson, Henry Johnson and Orlando Aga. Lars Johnson, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sander Johnson, was born in Lincoln twp. Oct. 20, 73 years ago. He spent his childhood and boyhood days here and in June, 1892 was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Queel. They first made their home here in Winneshiek county, later moving on to a farm near Lime Springs, where they have lived for a number of years. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, one son, Casper Johnson, three granddaughters, Elaine, Kathleen and LaVohn Johnson and the following brothers and sisters: John S. Johnson, Mrs. Iver Benson, Mrs. Ole Sanderson, Miss Matilda Johnson and Hans Johnson of Ridgeway and Mrs. Laura Aga of Minneapolis. Two sisters, Mrs. John Aga and Mrs. John Josendahl preceded him in death. Much sympathy is extended to the family in their hour of sorrow.
