Marcella I. Barth, 91, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and formerly of New Albin, IA, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, the Woodlands facility of Meth-Wick in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 21st, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Locust Cemetery, rural Decorah, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home.
Marcella Ilean Barth was born March 4, 1921 in Oak Springs Switch, near Wexford in Allamakee County to John and Margaret Ann "Maud" (Portwine) Spores. She grew up during the depression, attended rural Allamakee County elementary schools and as a young girl was a housekeeper in Lansing, IA. On December 11, 1940 she married Floyd G. Barth in Waukon. They farmed for many years in Winneshiek County and moved to the New Albin area in 1960 where they continued to farm. Marcella was an active and enthusiastic member of TOPS, an avid writer of poetry, painted and sang hymns. In 2005 she moved to Cedar Rapids to be with her daughter Linda.Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Ray) Whittle of Cedar Rapids, IA and Roxanne Barth of La Crosse, WI; a daughter-in-law, Jean Barth of Minong, WI; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Floyd; a son, Galen; a grandson, Peter Whittle; a great-grandson, Luke Whittle; and all of her six siblings.
