Mrs. Virginia Dolan

Virginia Dolan was born on a farm south of Cresco, Aug. 29, 1913. Her parents were Joseph and Catherine Woodard. She attended the public schools of Cresco and was baptized in the Methodist church. In 1932 she married Edwin Shobakken of Ridgeway, Ia. To this union was born one daughter, Marlene. Mr. Shobakken was drowned in 1937. After his death she moved to Austin, Minn., and worked there.

On Jan. 20, 1939, she was married to Edward Dolan of Austin at Owatonna, Minn. They made their home at Austin. She has been ill the last year and a half. Several trips to the Mayo Clinic and other places were of no avail. Her health failed and she has been bedridden since last March. Death came to end her suffering Aug. 26.

She leaves to mourn her early death, her husband, her daughter, two sisters: Mrs. W. L. Wheeler, Austin and Mrs. Charles Gerber, Cresco, Iowa; one brother, John Russell of Austin. Her father and mother and four brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral was held in the First Lutheran Church of Cresco in charge of the pastor, Rev. H. M. Normann. He spoke on Christian Life and Christian Hope. There were many gifts in her memory. The church was filled with sympathizing friends. Miss Audell Betts sang two hymns at the church: Sleep Thy Last Sleep and I Know of a Sleep in Jesus’ Name. Her golden voice was never sweeter. Interment was in Oaklawn cemetery.

Wheeler and family, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ruland, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Ofstedahl, Mr. and Mrs. Jack De Friendt, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kehret and Mrs. C. F. Kehret, Mrs. Don Loefel, Mrs. Joe Lickteig, Jean and Marian Mork, Floyd Dahlke, Adeline Overkamp, Henry Bemus, all of Austin; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Kay, Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Shoebakken, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shoebakken, Julia Belle and John Ellingson, all of Ridgeway; Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Wilmot, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mohs, Mr. and Mrs. Will Foote, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Foote and family, all of Lime Springs.

Mrs. Dolan Brought Here For Burial

Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Woodward Dolan will be held this afternoon at 1: 30 o’clock at the home of her sister Mrs. Fred Gerber in the south part of town. At two o’clock services will be held in the First Lutheran church and burial will be in the Ridgeway cemetery. The Rev. H. M. Normann will officiate.

Mrs. Dolan was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Woodward of Cresco. She died at her home in Austin, Minn., Monday, August 26. The body was brought to the Gerber home on Tuesday. Deceased was 26 years old.
