Services held for Malcolm O. Rue
Funeral services for Malcolm O. Rue, 86, of Ridgeway, were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 1997, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Rev. Phillip Olson and Ginny Olson, Associate in Ministry officiated. Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He died Saturday, February 22, 1997, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, IA.
Malcolm O. Rue was born September 3, 1910, in Ridgeway, the son of Ole O. and Olina (Brekke) Rue. He graduated from Cresco High School in 1928 and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA.
He married Adelaide Halvorson who later died in August, 1963. On October 8, 1968, he married Arlene Appel Wemark in Kensett, IA.
He worked at Farmers State Bank in Ridgeway for more than 50 years. He was vice president and also a real estate agent and insurance agent for the bank, and was on the bank’s Board of Directors.
Malcolm was active in the community of Ridgeway. He was Mayor of Ridgeway, served as Fire Chief, Scout Leader and he was on the School Board.
He was a member of Elks Lodge and Sons of Norway in Decorah; Lincoln and Peace Lutheran Churches, and on the building committee, president of church council, and was treasurer for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Ridgeway; four sons, Alan of Sequim, WA, Dennis of Billings, MT; Dean of Madison, WI; and Gary of Boulder, CO; two daughters, Carmen Peckham of Eagan, MN; and Susan Miller of Stewartville, MN; one step-son, Vince Wemark of Ridgeway; three step-daughters, Elaine Peterson of Grand Junction, CO; Dianne Smith of Marion, IA; and Deb Buelow of Fairfield, IA; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Irene Aschim of Ridgeway; Helen Anderson of Decorah; Lila Dewey of Kansas City, MO; and Betty Nelson of Plano, TX; and two brothers, Loren Rue of Ridgeway; and Roger Rue of St. Louis, MO.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Adelaide; one daughter, Beverly Rue; one step-son, Wayne Smith; one grandson; and his parents.
