Services held for Andrew Melver

A memorial service for Andrew Melver was held Saturday, June 21, at 2:00 p.m. at White’s Funeral Home in Independence with Pastor James Fladland officiating. Andrew was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Interment was at the Bluffton Cemetery.

Andrew Melver, 77, of Independence died Sunday, June 15, 1997 in East Towne Manor after a long illness.

Andrew was born April 6, 1920, the son of Albert and Cora (Wheeler) Melver in Bluffton. He was baptized at Burr Oak Lutheran Church and confirmed at Hauge Lutheran by Pastor Carl Losen.

Andrew worked for many years as a custodian at the Mental Health Institute in Independence. After retiring, he enjoyed doing volunteer work and fishing.

Survivors include his twin brother, Bert Melver of Des Moines; his sister, Violet Williams of Decorah; and several nieces and nephews.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Leona Huffman; and twin sisters in infancy.
