Services held for Alida Evenmoe
Funeral services for Alida Evenmoe of Decorah were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20 at Orleans Lutheran Church in rural Ridgeway with Rev. Phillip Olson and Rev. Ginny Olson officiating. Interment was in Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Cemetery in rural Spring Grove, MN. Pallbearers were: Tom Frana, Jim Tollefson, Lyle Toffelson, Dave Toffelson, Harlan Erickson, and Donald Housker. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Alida, 90, died Thursday, October 16, 2003 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah following a long illness.
Alida Marie Evenmoe was born January 8, 1913 in Granville, ND, the daughter of Theodore and Louise (Ask) Tollefson. The family moved from North Dakota after years of farming to Madison Township, rural Decorah. She was confirmed on May 22, 1927 at the Madison Lutheran Church. As a young woman, Alida worked in Cedar Rapids as a waitress and also employed by Wilson Meat Packing Co. and Collins Radio.
On May 2, 1948 she married Carl Evenmoe in Marion. They decided to move to the present farm site in Winneshiek County in the 1950s, where Alida helped with various farm chores and fieldwork.
Alida was a member of the Orleans ELCW.
She enjoyed taking care of the house, yard work, gardening, canning, baking and quilting. She also liked to read and watch TV.
She is survived by one daughter: Sandra Evenmoe of Ridgeway; one brother: Leo of Decorah; and one sister: Clara Fretheim of Shippensburg, PA.
Alida was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1988; her parents; and four brothers: Arthur Ray, Arthur Roy, Orville, and Henry.
