Galin Barth services held
Funeral services for Galin Barth, 76, of Cedar Rapids, were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Randy Kasch. A private interment will be held at a later date at Locust Cemetery in rural Decorah. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids handled the arrangements.
Galin died Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at his home following a four month battle with lung cancer.
Born November 11, 1921 in Winneshiek County to Frank and Mary Kern Barth, the youngest of 14 children, he attended rural school and was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Locust, IA.
On June 10, 1945 he married Wilma Hovey at Orleans Lutheran Church in rural Ridgeway. He farmed in the Decorah area until 1966. Later he moved to Cedar Rapids where he worked at Cherry Burrell, retiring in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; a son, Gary Barth of Cedar Rapids; three daughters: Bette Jurjevich of Albuquerque, NM; Phyllis Hack of West Branch; and Marlys Rosendahl of Cresco; two sisters: Ann Swain of Austin, MN, and Mildred Haugen of Decorah; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Galin was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; four sisters; and a great-grandson.
