Marlis J. “Pat” Zweibohmer, age 81, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, February 9, 2009 at Wellington Place in Decorah following a long illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 13, 2009 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah.
Visitation is on Thursday, February 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, with a Rosary recited at 4:30 P.M., and on Friday after 9:30 A.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Marlis was born May 20, 1927, in Canoe Township, rural Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert and Louise (Blegen) Gabrielson. She attended school in Canoe Township, Winneshiek County through the eighth grade. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
She was united in marriage to Arthur A. Leibold in 1945. He passed away on November 4, 1964. On April 15, 1965 she was united in marriage to Harold A. “Chuck” Zweibohmer in La Crosse, WI. They renewed their vows on their 30th anniversary at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah.
Marlis lived most of her life in Winneshiek County. She helped her parents on the farm until getting numerous jobs in Decorah before working in housekeeping. She took great pride in her job of cleaning homes and offices in the Decorah area. She enjoyed the many friendships she made through her job. Marlis was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Her hobbies included fishing, gardening, tractor pulls, Steam Engine Days and trips to Branson, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Louise Gabrielson; her first husband, Arthur Leibold; her second husband, Harold Zweibohmer; two brothers: James and Robert Gabrielson; and one son, Dale Leibold on April 23, 2000.
Marlis is survived by four children: Richard (Arlene) Leibold of Onalaska, WI, Mabel (Herman) Foster of Austin, MN, Bruce (Sally) Leibold of Decorah, IA, and Diane Leibold (Matt Gleisner ) of Geneva, IA.; seven grandchildren: Ben, Andy and Amanda Leibold of Decorah, IA., Roberta Foster of Neosho, MO, Wayne Foster of La Crosse, WI, Wesley (Mary Ann) Foster of King Salmon, AK, and Willie (Rocio) Foster of Federal Way, WA; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Leibold of Decorah and Matthew, Thomas and Sarah Foster of King Salmon, AK; one sister, Ellen Dawley of Bluffton, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
