Milton Young, age 87, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Douglas Mathison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning.
Milton Donald Young was born on December 3, 1920, the son of Dick and Alberta (Larson) Young in Pleasant Township, rural Decorah, Iowa. Milton attended country school near his home and farmed with his family. He married Arleen Fadness on October 15, 1944, at the Hauge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. Together they farmed north of Decorah for many years, until moving into Decorah five years ago. While Milt farmed, he also worked at Bolson Feeds, Roverud Construction, Luther College and at K & S Grocery Store. Milton enjoyed playing cards, his dogs and above all he loved his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Milt was Arleen’s number one fan of her Nordic Trio music group. Milt was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.
Milton’s survivors include his wife: Arleen Young, Decorah, IA. One son: Dennis (Diane) Young, Decorah, IA. Three grandchildren: Doreen (Dave) Holstad, Decorah, IA; Darren (Dianne) Young, Lakeville, MN and Dawn (Harold) Youngblood, Marshalltown, IA. Eight great grandchildren: Danielle & Daiton Holstad; Alex & Emma Young; Isaac, Jacob, Hunter and Kaiden Youngblood.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents: Dick and Alberta Young. Two brothers: Harry and Art Young. One sister: Marguerite Haga.
