Arleen Young, age 87, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Douglas Mathison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Aase Haugen Nursing Home or to the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday morning.

Arleen Eunice (Fadness) Young was born on April 3, 1921, the daughter of Erick and Anna (Svenson) Fadness in Decorah, Iowa. Arleen graduated from Decorah High School in 1939 and worked at Graham’s Department Store. Arleen married Milton Young on October 15, 1944 at the Hauge Lutheran Church. Together they farmed north of Decorah for many years. Arleen also worked at the Winneshiek Co-op, Dr. Berg’s Orthodontist office and then for the Winneshiek County Clerk of Court. Arleen was a member of the Nordic Trio for several years, and enjoyed playing her violin. Arleen’s greatest love was for her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished being with them. Arleen was a classy lady who always kept busy and enjoyed sewing, entertaining and was an excellent cook. She was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church and ladies circle.

Arleen’s survivors include her one son: Dennis (Diane) Young, Decorah, IA. Three grandchildren: Doreen (Dave) Holstad, Decorah, IA; Darren (Dianne) Young, Lakeville, MN and Dawn (Harold) Youngblood, Marshalltown, IA. Eight great grandchildren: Danielle & Daiton Holstad; Alex & Emma Young; Isaac, Jacob, Hunter and Kaiden Youngblood. One brother: Raymond (Arlene) Fadness, Decorah, IA and one sister-in-law: Belva Fadness, Decorah, IA, along with several nieces and nephews.

Arleen was preceded in death by her parents: Erick and Anna Fadness. Her husband: Milton on July 15, 2008. Two brothers: Norris and Harold Fadness. One sister: Esther Fadness.
