Marjorie G. “Marj” Wood, age 90, of Waverly, Iowa and formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, April 7, 2008 at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday, April 11, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah by Rev. Carol A. Kress with burial in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah at a later date.
Friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Thursday at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah where there will be a V.F.W. Auxiliary Memorial Service at 5:30 P.M. There is also visitation on Friday one hour before services at the Church.
Marjorie Geraldine (Anderson) Wood was born August 28, 1917 in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Theodore T. and Clara (Gillman) Anderson. She attended Decorah Public Schools.
She was united in marriage with Norman Edgar “Bud” Wood on December 19, 1946.
Marjorie worked as a waitress at The Tap Room, The Barbecue, Silvercrest Golf & Country Club, Oneota Golf & Country Club and the Elk’s Lodge. She then worked at Goetsch Home Interiors in Decorah.
Marjorie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decorah for many years and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She liked to crochet, sew, garden and she enjoyed interior design work.
Marjorie moved to Waverly, Iowa, in December 2005 and became a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud on September 20, 1981; one daughter, Beverly Callahan in May of 1987; an infant son, Gerald Duane Stevens; and one sister, Barbara Vick.
She is survived by two sons: Dean (Darleen) Stevens of St. Louis, Missouri and Gary (Doris) Wood of Waverly, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Quinn (Eileen) Callahan, Michelle (Frank) Collingbourne, Tom Callahan, Chris Callahan, Ryan Callahan, Leslie Stevens, Lisa, Loren Stevens, Keene Wood and Faydra Wood; and several great-grandchildren.
