Lynette M. Wilson, age 50, of Decorah, Iowa, died Thursday, July 6, 2006 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota from acute liver failure syndrome.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Center for Faith and Life at Luther College in Decorah by the Rev. Joan A. Mau, Pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Decorah.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, July 10, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations directed to the Department of Music, Luther College, 700 College Drive, Decorah, Iowa 52101 or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 701 Iowa Avenue, Decorah, Iowa 52101

Lynette Marie (Torkelson) Wilson was born on July 20, 1955 in Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan and Eleanor (Schutte) Torkelson. She was raised in Elgin, Iowa and was baptized and confirmed at Elgin Lutheran Church. She was very active in the church in her youth. Lynette graduated from Valley Community High School in Elgin with the Class of 1973 and from Luther College in Decorah, IA in 1977, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education. While at Luther, she was the first woman elected president of the Nordic Choir.

She was united in marriage with Robert G. Wilson on August 6, 1977 at Elgin Lutheran Church in Elgin, Iowa.

Lynette worked at Kephart’s Music Center in Decorah from 1977-1981. She taught music in the South Winneshiek High School in Calmar part-time from 1979-1981. Lynette began teaching in the Decorah Community Schools in the Fall of 1981. She served as the vocal music director, taught voice lessons, directed choral music groups, solo-ensemble entries, musicals and variety shows for Decorah High School for the last 25 years. Lynette also established the Madrigal singers and the Madrigal dinner in Decorah and provided music for many community groups and organizations. She was an officer in the Decorah Education Association for many years and served on many faculty committees at the high school.

Lynette assisted students auditioning for the national FFA chorus and the New Minowa Players; served as the Choir Director at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah for the last 29 years; was active in Dorian Opera Theater at Luther College and provided a message in music at many weddings, baptism and funerals in the community.

Lynette was an avid gardener and she loved traveling and cooking with Bob. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Lynette liked the outdoors, including hiking, boating, swimming and going on long walks with her dog. She really enjoyed attending live theater performances and music shows.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Robert “Bob” Wilson of Decorah; her parents, Ivan and Eleanor Torkelson of Elgin, Iowa; two brothers and their families, Bruce (Susan) Torkelson and their children Erin and Kyle of Waukon, IA, Dirk (Cindy) Torkelson and their children Jerrod, Brandon and Cody of Elgin, IA; her mother-in-law, Donna Wilson of Independence, IA; two brothers-in-law, Tom (Judy) Wilson of Robins, IA and Roger (Diane) Wilson of Independence, IA; a sister-in-law, Jane (Keith) Rottinghaus of Jesup, IA; several nieces and nephews, and three God-children, Nicole Knepper of Columbus, OH, Neil Weiss of Madison, WI and Brandon Torkelson of Elgin, IA.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Dean Wilson.
