Gerald “Augi” Wiltgen, age 56, of Calmar, Iowa died on Monday, September 18, 2006, from an apparent heart attack, south of Decorah, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call on Thursday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.

Memorials may be given to Dollars for Scholars at the South Winn. School, P.O. Box 298, Calmar, IA 52132.

Gerald “Gerry” Leon “Augi” Wiltgen was born on April 20, 1950, the son of Richard John Edward and Viola Anastasia (Wagner) Wiltgen in Decorah, Iowa. Augi attended and graduated from South Winn High School in 1968 and Area One in Calmar, where he served as class treasurer. Augi started working for Camcar in December of 1969 as a machine operator and the last years as a quality assurance manager, working for thirty-seven years. Augi was the well-known voice of South Winn Athletics and the announcer of the Farmer’s Day Parade in Calmar. Augi umpired and refereed many sporting events in the northeast Iowa area. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where he was a lector for many years. He was a member of the South Winn County Club and was currently serving as treasurer. Augi was involved with the South Winn Dollars for Scholars program and was instrumental in starting the South Winn Booster Club. He also was a part owner of the New Red Vest from 1980-1990. He enjoyed playing in a Pool League, was an avid South Winn, Hawkeye and Packer fan. Augi enjoyed spending time with his friends at “Tanks” and “Your Place” but he especially loved his niece and nephews.

Augi’s survivors include his sister: Janet (Jerome) Uhlenhake, Calmar, IA. Two brothers: Garry (Dianne) Wiltgen, Calmar, IA and Gene (Terri) Wiltgen, Onalaska, WI. One niece: Brittany Wiltgen. Six nephews: Chad Wiltgen, Chris (Nicole) Wiltgen and Casey Wiltgen; Jason and Josh Uhlenhake and Travis Wiltgen. One Aunt: Evelyn Wiltgen, Ossian, IA. Two Uncles: Walter (Betty) Wiltgen, Harmony, MN and Donald Wiltgen, Fountain, CO. Augi is also survived by a host of many special friends and his fellow co-workers at Camcar.

Augi was preceded in death by his mother: Viola on Aug. 1, 2001; his father: Dick on July 15, 2005; one nephew: Justin Uhlenhake on May 24, 1988 and several aunts and uncles
