Alice C. Voxland, age 102, died Friday, September 21, 2007 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. James Glesne. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural McIntosh, Minnesota.
Friends may call after 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Church. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of the arrangements.
Alice Cecelia, daughter of Leander and Lovisa Sundholm, was born February 14, 1905 in Ely Minnesota. She received her education in Ely and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota. Her degree was in languages. She taught school in several Minnesota communities, including Virginia, White Bear, Ely, Stewartville and substitute teaching at Rochester.
Alice married Melvin Voxland on July 3, 1937 in Ely. They had two children, a daughter Karen and a son Philip. Alice had a profound love for her family. She looked forward to their visits and shared special events. Alice and Melvin shared an interest in genealogy; they both wrote meaningful family histories.
Her hobbies were gardening, stitchery, and crossword puzzles. The family cabin on Ely’s Burntside Lake was always a special spot and recollecting family times there were sure to bring a smile.
Alice is survived by her two children Karen (Mrs. John) Tjostem of Decorah, IA, Philip Voxland of Minneapolis, MN, three grandchildren, Reverend Paul Tjostem, Steele, North Dakota, David Tjostem (Kathy), Decorah, Ann (Jim) Kephart, Decorah, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, her parents, Leander and Lovisa Sundholm, two sisters, Lydia and Anne, and two brothers Alvin and Arvid.
