Lloyd A. Vine, age 95, of Decorah, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, by Rev. Kim W. Smith, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10 AM Wednesday at the church.

Lloyd Arthur Vine was born on January 11, 1912 on the family farm in Madison Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of Albert and Anna (Benson) Vine. He was baptized on March 31, 1912 and then confirmed on May 30, 1926 at Decorah Lutheran Church. He attended Whitehill School #7.

He was united in marriage to Laura Beatha Landsrud on November 21, 1937 at the bride’s home near Nordness. This union was blessed with one child: Janet.

Lloyd farmed near Nordness for many years, until he retired and moved into Decorah in 1982. He was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council and as an usher. He also served on the Nordness Creamery Board and was a member of Winneshiek County Farm Bureau.

Lloyd loved the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. He was a skilled gardener and enjoyed growing beautiful gladiolas and sharing them with others. He also loved to play cards.

Lloyd became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah on April 17, 2001. He died at the home on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the age of 95 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet and her husband Kenny Ottesen of Decorah; four grandchildren, Kevin (Angie) Ottesen of Dyersville, IA, Kimberly (Jim) Giardino of Cedar Falls, IA, Karen (Dan) Drake of Kansas City, MO and Kristi (Steve) Haynes of Ash Grove, MO; eight great grandchildren; two step great grandsons, a special nephew whom he raised, Steve (Judy) Houdek of Anamosa, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura on June 27, 1996; four brothers, Hjalmer, Alert, Willie and Clarence and two sisters, Alice Vick and Violet Houdek.
