Geraldine “Gerry” A. Vick, age 74, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, WI. after a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. Joan A. Mau, with burial in Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.
Geraldine Amelia Vick was born June 30, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harry and Marie (Broenen) Bretsch.
Geraldine was united in marriage to Robert Berg in June 1951. To this union, three children were born: Sally, Wanda and Larry. The couple were later divorced. She was united in marriage to Vernon Rod Vick on September 14, 1963 in Caledonia, MN. To this union, three children were born: Cathy, Harlan and Michael.
Gerry was a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family and the home she created was the center of her life and everyone was welcomed into her home. She loved spending time visiting and especially enjoyed celebrating the holidays with her family, including making cookies and lefse at Christmas time. Gerry loved life, even though she had several health related obstacles to overcome in her daily living, including blindness.
Survivors include her six children, Sally (James) Tieskoetter of Castalia, IA, Wanda Schroeder of Monona, IA, Larry (Karen) Berg of Ossian, IA, Cathy (Todd) Scheidel of Decorah, IA, Harlan (Brenda) Vick of Decorah, IA and Michael (Jenny) Vick of Decorah, IA; seventeen grandchildren, Stephanie Haugen-Baldridge and her husband Joseph Baldridge, Sara (Tom) Eide, Scott (Nicole) Haugen, Jill Schroeder, Jennifer Berg, Devin Humpal, Jason Scheidel, Jordan Scheidel, Zackary Vick, Courtney Vick, Tony Moen, Alexis Vick, Lance Tieskoetter, Jill Tieskoetter, Jaclyn Tieskoetter, Jamie (A.J.) Feuerbach, Jennifer (Thayne) Jensen; five great-grandchildren, Hope Haugen, Steven Baldridge, Tristan Schroeder, Callie Eide, and John Baldridge; a brother, Harry (Caroline) Bretsch of Elkhorn, WI; two sisters, Marlene and Darlene Bretsch; several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous special friends who Gerry held close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vernon on January 3, 1996; a sister, Patricia Sievers and a brother, Dick Bretsch.
