Lillie Mae Thompson was born April 11, 1910 on a farm 71/2 miles west of Ridgeway, Iowa, the daughter of Orlando and Bertina (Brenno) Aga. She was baptized on May 15, 1910 at United Lutheran Church in Ridgeway and confirmed on May 17, 1925 at Lincoln Lutheran Church, rural Ridgeway by Rev. D.C. Jordahl.

She was united in marriage to Richard Thompson on May 30, 1934 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, two daughters were born: Shirley and Sherry.

Lillie was always an active member of her church until she was unable to drive about a year ago. Through the years she was involved with WELCA, church circle, taught Sunday School and Bible School.

She spent many years teaching in one room country schools, North Winneshiek School and retired from Decorah Community Schools in the spring of 1976. One of her proudest moments was earning her Bachelor of Science degree at age 58 while teaching fulltime. She thoroughly enjoyed her teaching career of 33 years.

Lillie had many good years of retirement. She and Richard enjoyed time spent with their family, eating out with their friends and going to the Senior Meal Site. After Richard’s death in 1997, Lillie continued doing these same things. She traveled with Shirley and Jim and Sherry and Don to the homes of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was happy to have a great granddaughter named “Lily” in her honor.

Lillie’s hobbies included crocheting and tatting. She has tatted many snowflakes and cross book marks. She made enough snowflakes so that Shirley, Sherry and all her grandchildren have enough snowflakes to decorate their Christmas trees.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (Jim) Casterton of Spring Grove, MN, Sherry (Don) McDowell of Cedar Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren, Jim (Deb) Casterton, Todd Souhrada, Stephanie (Jim) Rollins, Troy Souhrada, Danell (Pat) Wells, John Casterton and Joel (Lori) Casterton; ten great grandchildren, Josiah and Noah Casterton, Jessica Souhrada, Julia, Grace, John and Lily Rollins, Zachary and Ashley Wells and Drew Casterton; one sister, Ruby Hellem of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Watson of Austin, MN and Ruth Blekeberg of Decorah and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard on March 3, 1997 and a brother, Norman.

Throughout her life, she lived a great Christian example for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
