Francis N. “Frank” Teslow, age 90 of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, January 30, 2006 at Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah following a short illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 3, 2006 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, by Rev. Kim W. Smith, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday, February 2, 2006 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Friday after 10:00 AM at the Church.
Francis Norman “Frank” Teslow was born November 2, 1915 at home in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of Edwin Hillman and Clara Antoinette (Hersrude) Teslow. He was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church and attended Rocksvold School.
Francis was united in marriage to E. Viola Tollefson on February 11, 1939 at the Springfield Lutheran Church parsonage. To this union, six children were born: Janet, Patricia, Susan, Gary, Debra and Dianne.
Francis farmed until 1962 and won a Decorah Chamber of Commerce Conservation Practices award in 1944 for his work with a contour corn plot. He then worked for L.C. Bolson Co. in Decorah for many years until his retirement, painted homes and did carpentry work in the area. He was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church where he was a Deacon, past Trustee, and a member of the men’s group. For many years Francis opened and closed graves in the Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.
Francis loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed dancing with Viola hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and playing cards.
Francis became a resident of the Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah on January 18, 2006.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Viola of Decorah; a son, Gary (Sue) Teslow of Decorah; five daughters, Janet (Stan) Funston of Cedar Rapids, IA, Patricia (Marvin) Manness of Barstow, CA, Susan (George) Vondruska of Lakeville, MN, Debra (Stan) Moellers of Decorah and Dianne (Vince) Story of Billings, MT.; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Ingeman Teslow of Decorah; two sisters-in-law, Evangeline Teslow of Waukon, IA and Theresa Teslow of Frankville, IA and a brother-in-law, John Austad, Sr. of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Oliver, Alfred, Carlton, Henry, Lester and Ray Teslow; five sisters, Helen Teslow, Clarice Teslow, Doris Teslow, an infant sister and Clarice Hanson; two grandchildren, Sherri and Kevin Funston and a great-grandson, Cody Nikkel.
