Alberta E. Teslow, age 92, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen, with burial in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.

Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday, December 18, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home and after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church.

Alberta Elizabeth Teslow was born March 19, 1914 at home on the family farm near Burr Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Minnie E. (Wohlford) Van Vliet. She was baptized and confirmed at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. Alberta was educated in Van Vliet Country Schoolhouse through eighth grade. She graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1932. During and after High School, Alberta worked at McNeil’s Coat and Suit Store and then at Collins Radio in Decorah.

She was united in marriage to Harold J. Teslow on June 8, 1938 at her parent’s farm home near Burr Oak. This union was blessed with four children: Robert, William, Richard and Lynda. Alberta and Harold relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1942 and returned to Decorah in 1949. Harold and his brother Mel operated the DeSoto & Plymouth Dealership in Decorah from 1949-1958. In 1958 the couple moved to Mt. Carroll, Illinois and purchased the Chevrolet dealership, which they operated until retirement in 1972. They moved to Palm Desert, California in 1976 where they lived until returning to Decorah in 1993.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah and Silvercrest Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed golfing in Decorah and in Palm Desert, playing bridge, taking walks and cooking for all of her friends and family.

Alberta became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah on June 30, 2005.

Survivors include her four children, Robert Teslow of Decorah, William Teslow of Little Canada, MN, Richard (Pam) Teslow of Macomb, IL. and Lynda (Randy) Morgan of Fishers, IN.; sixteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold on May 20, 1998; and a brother, Harry Van Vliet.
