Edna L. Stromseth, age 97, of Decorah, IA, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Barthell O.E.S Home in Decorah, of complications from pneumonia.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah with Rev. John Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Russell Cemetery in rural Decorah.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, March 2 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Saturday one hour before the service at the church.

Edna Lovina (McLain) Stromseth was born May 20, 1914 in rural Decorah, Iowa to Theodore and Ella May (Headington) McLain. She graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1932. For a short time she taught in rural schools (Locust and Canoe #2 schools) in Winneshiek County.

Edna was united in marriage to Emmett W. Stromseth on July 25, 1941 at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Decorah. Together they raised three children: Sonja, Mae and Donald. Edna and Emmett farmed in Canoe Township. For many years they raised chickens and Edna delivered eggs all over town.

Edna was the secretary for the school board during the formation of the North Winneshiek School District. She also worked at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital as ward clerk for fifteen years, retiring in 1982. She was an active member of the Decorah Methodist Church and was involved with the United Methodist Women group. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and gardening. She had an interest in the Russell Cemetery near Decorah where she held several offices for more than 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmett on April 29, 1990; and three brothers: Walter, Roger and Fred McLain.

Edna is survived by three children: Sonja (Don) Molitor, Waukon, IA, Mae (John) Judas, Oelwein, IA and Donald (Sally) Stromseth, Decorah; five grandchildren: Paul (Joy) Judas of League City, TX, David (Denise) Judas of Bondurant, IA, Ann (Anthony) Thomas of Kemah, TX, Sara (Nate) Troy of Cresco and Mary (Dan) Marx of Decorah; and by six great-grandsons: Nathaniel, Daniel, Christopher, Kevin, James and William.
