Lloyd S. Strinmoen, age 89, of Decorah, Iowa, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah by Rev. David H. Andreae. Burial will be in Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Lloyd Selmer Strinmoen was born March 31, 1919, in the big house that was built for a hospital in Highlandville, IA, the son of James Selmer and Louise (Morken) Strinmoen. He was baptized at Big Canoe Lutheran Church on April 20, 1919 under the hand of Pastor T.O. Tolo. His sponsors were Martin and Bertha Clauson, Olaf Strinmoen, and Olga Strinmoen. He was confirmed on July 23, 1933 also by Pastor T.O. Tolo at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Lloyd attended the Highlandville School graduating from the eighth grade in 1933. He then worked for area farmers before and after his military service. He entered the U.S. Army on February 11, 1942 serving in the European theater, and was honorably discharged on October 10, 1945. He worked briefly at Massey-Harris and the Packard car dealership. Lloyd was a farmer for thirty-five years.

He was united in marriage to Charlotte (Zuhl) Christopherson on April 6, 1963 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Highlandville, Iowa. After Lloyd and Charlotte moved to Decorah in 1979, he worked a short time at Camcar and then became a custodian at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home for 21 years, retiring in 2003 at the age of 84.

Lloyd was a lifelong member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church where he was very active. He was a member of the V.F.W. for over 50 years.

Lloyd died on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa, at the age of 89.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of Decorah, IA; one son, Adrian (Valerie) Strinmoen of Minneapolis, MN; one step-son, John (Linda) Christopherson of Decorah, IA; two step-daughters: Helen (Ron) Snell of Maquoketa, IA and Ramona (Dutch) Sadler of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren: Carmen (Devin) Johnson of Decorah, IA, Adam (Jen) Christopherson of Marion, IA, Robyn (Mark) Aiels of Cedar Rapids, IA, Heidi (John) Snell-Anderson of Evanston, IL, Austin Snell of Iowa City, IA, and Garrett Sadler of Overland Park, KS; six step-grandchildren: Greg Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Katherine (Orlander) Keller of Bloomington, MN, Jamie Rae Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Luke Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Anna Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, and Timothy Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; five great-grandchildren: Jace and Emma Johnson, Ethan and Fynn Christopherson, and Cora Aiels; two step-great-grandchildren: Anthony Johnson and Theodore Johnson; and survived by two sisters: Evelyn Kroshus of Decorah, IA and Verna Halverson of Waukee, IA; and by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norman and Kenneth Strinmoen; and one sister, Mildred Johnson.
