Christopher Spilde, age 30, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Sunday, July 25, 2010, in Waucoma, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with Rev. John Caldwell and Rev. Doug Bryce presiding. Burial will be in the Canoe Methodist Cemetery, rural Decorah, Iowa.
Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m., on Thursday and from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday morning at the First United Methodist Church, 302 West Broadway St., in Decorah.
The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements.
Christopher Larry Spilde was born on March 15, 1980, the son of Larry and Deb (Gremm) Spilde, in Decorah, Iowa. Christopher attended and graduated from Decorah High School in 1998. While in school, Chris was active in the Nordic Dancers. He also participated in Punt, Pass and Kick at the age of eight, where he was the Regional winner. Christopher attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis, MN, where he graduated in 1999, in Radio Broadcasting. He then worked in Sturgeon Bay, WI, for WDOR in Door County. He returned to Decorah, and worked at KDEC for a couple of years, before becoming a route salesman for Wonder Bread, Frito Lay and for Premium Beverage. Christopher married Amanda Johnson on July 19, 2003, in Lime Springs, IA, and to this union, two children were born: Noah and Rachel. Christopher enjoyed golfing, playing pool in area leagues, and music. He also enjoyed the Chicago Bears and playing tennis. Christopher was on the Decorah High School State Championship Tennis Team in ’97 and ’98. Christopher was a member of Christian Life Center, in Decorah. He recently took two mission trips to Mexico in 2007 and 2009, to reach people with God’s love. Christopher was a member of the Silvercrest Golf Course. Christopher loved spending time with his children and will be greatly missed by his family.
Christopher’s survivors include his wife: Amanda Spilde. Two children: Noah and Rachel Spilde. His parents: Deb (Gary) Tekippe and Larry Spilde. Two brothers: Josh Spilde and Alex Spilde. His grandparents: Gavin and Esther Spilde, His father and mother-in-law: Gailen and Judie Johnson, all of Decorah, IA. One sister-in-law: Jen (Cori) Peterson, Calmar, IA. Four Aunts: Barb (Ed) Szabo, Decorah, IA; Cindy (Randy) Plaht, Postville, IA; Marian (Gary) Kuhn, Decorah, IA and Carolyn Spilde, Burr Oak, IA. One Uncle: Gary (Marie) Gremm, Waukon, IA. One nephew: Trevor Peterson and one niece: Jordan Peterson, along with several cousins. One step-brother: Todd (Kim) Tekippe, Eden Prairie, MN and one step-sister: Julie (Chris) Dalgado, Moreno Valley, CA.
Christopher was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Leona and Curt Gremm.
