Leland L. Van Horn passed away Wednesday, March 4, 1920, after an illness of eight weeks due to Bright's disease and dropsy. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. Elton D. Wells officiating. Burial was made in Phelps cemetery. Among those who attended the funeral were the deceased's twin brother, Len Van Horn of St. Thomas, N.B.; H. E. Pettis of Kasota, Minn.; Will Toney of Waukon; and a number of people from Postville.
The deceased was born at Monroe, Wis., January 4, 1868, his parents being Willian and Julia Van Horn. He was educated in the public schools of Wisconsin. On January 22, 1888, he united in marriage with Miss Frances Toney, the wedding taking place at Boscobel, Wis. To them were born eight children, James, Charles, Everett, Esther, Ethel, Edith, Eldia and Landis. Of these the following survive, Charles, Everett, Edith, Eldia, Mrs. Gunder Halverson and Mrs. Carl Fitzsimmons, all of Decorah. The deceased's widow also survives.
The Van Horn family came to Decorah nine years ago from Postville. Mr. Van Horn was a truck farmer. He engaged in this and other occupations while in Decorah, at one time being street commissioner. He was a working, upright man held in high regard by those who knew him. In his death the family have the sympathy of the community. - Decorah Journal.
