Pat Seiler, age 61, of Decorah, IA, died on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at her home.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, IA. Father Phillip Gibbs presiding burial will be in the St. Benedict’s Cemetery
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, and after 9:30 at the church on Saturday
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Pat Seiler to Winneshiek County Hospice, 901 Montgomery St., Decorah, IA, or to Wellington Place, 2479 River Road, Decorah, IA.
Patricia “Pat” Ann Seiler was born on June 19, 1949, the daughter of Raymond Anthony and Hilda Marie (Bohr) Holthaus in Decorah, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah. Pat attended St. Benedict’s Catholic School thru eighth grade and then graduated from St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Ossian in 1967. She worked for one year at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, she attended NIACC in Mason City, graduating as an LPN in 1969. She was united in marriage to Raymond Seiler on Oct. 18, 1969, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and to this union, three sons were born: Matthew Raymond, Arik Clyde and Paul Anthony. They later divorced. Pat worked as an LPN for ten years, before obtaining her RN in 1979. She was employed at the Decorah Retirement Center, Decorah Medical Associates, Sartori Hospital, Winneshiek Medical Center, and the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA and recently as Director of Nursing at Wellington Place in Decorah, IA. Pat was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed her precious family, friends, reading, crocheting, and playing cards. Over the years, several nurses expressed gratitude to Pat for giving them the inspiration to choose nursing as a career. Pat thoroughly loved nursing and caring for other people.
Pat’s survivors include her three sons: Matthew Seiler, Phoenix, AZ; Arik (Tonyia) Seiler, Decorah, IA; and Paul (Loni) Seiler, San Diego, CA. Five grandchildren: Jaxon Seiler; Taylor Byrnes; Madisyn, Bryce, and Ethan Bockman. Special Friend: Darwin Melcher, Decorah, IA. Four brothers: Adrian (Sue) Holthaus; Willard (Mary Ellen) Holthaus; Ron (Lorraine) Holthaus; and Dave Holthaus, all of Decorah, IA. Four sisters: Inez (Dan) Schmitt, West Union, IA; Judy (Norbert) Bullerman, Calmar, IA; Connie Sande, LaCrosse, WI and Maxine (Karl) Klotzbach, Decorah, IA. One sister-in-law: Elaine Croatt Holthaus, Dubuque, IA. One brother-in-law: Douglas Blair, Miamisburg, OH. One aunt: Sister Marie Bohr, OSF, Dubuque, IA, along with forty-two nieces, and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents: Raymond Holthaus on May 20, 1964 and Hilda Holthaus on October 15, 1987. Her brother: Ken Holthaus on Feb 1, 2010. Her sister: Jane Holthaus Blair on Sept. 6, 2010. One niece: Teresa Holthaus in 1961.
