Rebecca A. Schuman, age 54, of Decorah, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 4, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah by Rev. Carol A. Kress. Following the services and at her request, Becky's body will be donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, November 3, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Oneota Riverview Care Facility, 2479 River Road, Decorah, Iowa 52101

Rebecca Ann “Becky” Schuman was born April 25, 1952 at Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of William Richard and Beverly Ann (Bader) Schuman. She was baptized on October 26, 1952 at Grace United Methodist Church in Waterloo and confirmed on May 28, 1967 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah. She attended Decorah Community Schools.

Becky had previously worked at Spectrum Industries and the Spectrum Recycling Center in Decorah. She became a resident of the Oneota Riverview Care Facility in September of 1972. Becky was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decorah and the Oneota Riverview Care Facility Auxiliary.

She participated in several Special Olympics competitions and was very proud of the two gold medals she earned. Becky loved to read and spent many hours studying the local newspaper, reading and remembering each item in the “Milestones” section. She liked to watch movies and especially enjoyed attending five county dances at the care facility. Her favorite song was “The Green, Green Grass of Home” and she requested it often at the dances.

Becky never forgot to give any member of her family or her friends a card on their birthday. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her parents, Richard “Dick” and Beverly Schuman of Decorah, IA; a brother, Bruce and his wife Betty of Decorah; a niece, Joelle Schuman of Mankato, MN; two nephews, Jarod Schuman of Decorah and Jeffrey Schuman and his wife Heather of Shoreview, MN.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Neva Bader and Ralph and Nellie Schuman; an uncle, Curtis Bader; and an aunt, Bernadine Hickok.
