Ronald “Sam” Schuler, age 75, of Festina, IA, died on Monday, October 11, 2010, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, Iowa, with Monsignor Cletus Hawes presiding.
Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at the Festina Parish Center in Festina, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar is in charge of arrangements.
Ronald William “Sam” Schuler was born on February 23, 1935, the son of Norbert and Irma (Schroeder) Schuler on the family farm near Festina, Iowa. Sam attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina and graduated from Calmar High School in 1953. He married Donna Knapp on July 11, 1956, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, IA. Sam worked for Bucheit Produce in Calmar and for Kleen Maid Bakery out of West Union as a deliveryman. Sam worked construction for many years until he retired in 1997. Sam enjoyed bowling, gambling, hunting, fishing, trapping, along with hunting for mushrooms and ginseng. Most of all, Sam loved the companionship of his little weiner dog, Brandi. Sam was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, Iowa.
Sam is survived by his wife: Donna D. Schuler, Festina, IA. Two daughters: Tina (Roger) Croell, Sundance, WY; and Tami (Gary) Schmitt, Waucoma, IA. Five grandchildren: Lance (Raquel) Croell, Lacy Croell, Kyle Schmitt, Kelsey & Kara Schmitt. One great grandchild: Carter Croell. Two sisters: Janet (Allen) Weston, Cedar Falls, IA and Nancy Kluesner, Manchester, IA.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents: Norbert Schuler on May 27, 1983 and Irma Schuler on September 10, 2008. His brother-in-law: Daniel Kluesner in 2002.
