Dolores M. Rohm, age 84, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Allen Vik officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday morning.

Dolores Mae (Brooks) Rohm was born on December 10, 1923, the daughter of William Herbert and Gladys Ruby (Huffman) Brooks in Allamakee County. Dolores attended grade schools in Luana and Waukon, IA and entered 4th grade in Decorah, when the family moved to Decorah from Waukon. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1942. She was confirmed in the Decorah Methodist Church by Rev. Arthur Kindred. After graduation she worked at Grangaard’s grocery and then took a three-month course at Western Union School in Indianapolis, IN. For the next 3 years she was a Western Union operator in Ft. Madison, IA and Alton, IL. Dolores married Arnold Rohm on December 9, 1945 in Decorah, IA. She worked for over twenty years at the ASCS office in Decorah; five years at CAMCAR; and from 1982 to 1998 at the Lynch Law office a couple days a week. Dolores had many interests over the past years, which included bird watching, genealogy, gardening; especially enjoying flowers. She was a lifetime member of the Vesterheim Museum and two Audubon Societies. She has been an active member of the Master Gardeners Club, the Decorah Genealogy Association, the Decorah Lutheran Church, the Ruth ladies circle and served on the church council.

Dolores’ survivors include her husband: Arnold “Arnie” Rohm, Decorah, IA and one brother: William “Bill” (Dorothy) Brooks, Decorah, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Anna Iverson, Decorah, IA (Arnie’s twin sister); Martha (Charles) Rosendahl, Plano TX and Marie Rohm, Decorah, IA. One brother-in-law: Marvin (Ruth) Rohm, Cedar Falls, IA and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents: William Herbert and Gladys Ruby Brooks. Her brother: Delmar Brooks. Two sisters: Joyce Whalen and Dorothy Nelson. One half-brother: Earling Rohm. Two half-sisters: Mabel Eittreim and Esther Barrett. Two nephews: Bruce Brooks and Barry Whalen.
