Marie B. Ranum, age 98, of Decorah, Iowa, died Friday, January 11, 2008 at Wellington Place in Decorah following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 14, 2008 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Michael Vote is officiating. Burial is in Phelps Cemetery.

There is no visitation.

Marie Barbara Ranum was born September 30, 1909 in Ossian, Iowa, the daughter of Simon J. and Bernadine (Balk) Schoeberl. She attended and graduated from St. Francis DeSales Catholic School in Ossian.

She was united in marriage to Oscar C. Ranum on December 8, 1930 in Austin, Minnesota. This union was blessed with one son, David.

Marie spent time sewing bib overalls in a factory in Austin before they were married. Marie and Oscar lived in Glenwood Township, Freeport, and then in the mid 1940s they moved to Nordness where they farmed. She was very active in farming with Oscar. Marie also loved to be outside and enjoyed working in her garden and with raspberries. Marie liked to read. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 28, 1940.

Marie became a resident of Wellington Place on November 1, 2000.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar on April 15, 1973; her son, David on July 21, 1981; two brothers: William and Ulrich; and three sisters: Agnes Tollefson, Rose Brown; and Clara, in infancy.

She is survived by a nephew and four nieces.
