Marshall Arthur Burns
Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. at the Miles Ames home and 2 p.m. at the Bethel Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church at Postville for Marshall A. Burns, 55, who passed away September 5, following a heart attack.
Marshall Arthur Burns was born the son of Marion F. and Myrtle (McMartin) Burns on April 24, 1899, in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county near Castalia. He attended the country school and grew to manhood in this same community.
On August 8, 1929, he was united in marriage with Myrtle Bray of Waukon. To this union was born one son, Robert.
Mr. Burns had been for a number of years employed in the vicinity of Postville and for the last year and a half was engaged as assistant plumber at the college in Mount Vernon.
Mr. Burns was formerly a member of the Frankville Community Church where he received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism but later transferred his membership to the Postville Evangelical United Brethren Church which he maintained until the time of his death.
Mr. Burns was one of a family of three children, his parents and one sister, who died in infancy, preceded him in death.
Mr. Burns had been for many years a sufferer of asthma and it is believed that this condition led to the heart attack which took his life suddenly on Sunday morning, September 5, 1954, at 9:30 a.m. while visiting at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, the Miles Ames home in Castalia.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Myrtle, and one son, Robert; two sisters, Iva Mae (Mrs. Miles Ames) of Castalia and Hazel, (Mrs. Frank Fuller) of Lisbon; several nieces and nephews.
