Olga I. Ottesen, age 96, of Decorah, IA, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 13, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, Iowa with Rev. Phillip Olson and Rev. Ginny Olson officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday, September 12 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Monday one hour before the service at the church.

Olga Irene Torkelson was born August 14, 1914 in Highland Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian Faith on October 11, 1914 at Highland Lutheran Church in Elkader, Iowa and confirmed in Norwegian on June 29, 1929 at Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa. She attended the Hamre Elementary School through 8th grade.

She was united in marriage to Milton F. Ottesen on August 28, 1935 in Dubuque, Iowa. This union was blessed with two sons: David and Kenneth.

Olga worked at the Sugar Bowl and the Barb Restaurant in Decorah. She and Milton also farmed for a few years. Then, in 1955, they moved to Cedar Rapids and then Marion, Iowa, where Olga worked at various places until 1976, when she and Milton moved back to Decorah. They lived there until 1980 when they moved to Ridgeway, where they lived until 1996, when they moved back to Decorah.

Olga will be remembered for her love for flowers, her crocheting, helping with her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Olga became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in January 2007.

Olga is survived by her two sons: David (Sarah) Ottesen and Kenneth (Janet) Ottesen of Decorah; ten grandchildren: Kevin Ottesen, Kim (Jim) Giardino, Karen (Dan) Drake, Kristi Haynes, Cindy (Bill) Crandall, Tammy (Jerry) Vrzak, Jackie (Duane) Novotny, Julie Snitker (special friend Dave Sacquitne), Jay Graves, and Joel (Joyce) Graves; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte Wheatman of Peoria, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Norma Hilberg of Decorah; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Milton on January 15, 1997; three brothers: Carl and his wife Florence Hilberg, Sidney and his wife Leona Hilberg, and Walter Hilberg; her daughter-in-law, Marlene Ottesen, a granddaughter-in-law, Angie Ottesen; and a brother-in-law, Alvin Wheatman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to W.M.C. Hospice, 901 Montgomery Street, Decorah, IA 52101 or Aase Haugen Home, 4 Ohio Street, Decorah, IA 52101.
