Gloria Ruth (Hougen) Ormord was born on August 18, 1969, the daughter of Rev. O. Paul and Helen (Peterson) Hougen in Sandwich, IL. Gloria started school in Hills, MN and graduated from high school in Denver, Iowa in 1987. She attended Waldorf College, UNI and graduated from Grandview College in Des Moines with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. Gloria married Brian Ormord on October 6, 1990 at her parents’ home, “Rustic Acres,” near Decorah, in an outdoor wedding ceremony. To this union, four children were born: Kirsten in 1993 and Zachary in 1995, while living in Des Moines; Kari in 1997 in Columbus, OH and Christian in 2000 in Burnsville, MN. In 2004, they moved near Ridgeway, where they recently have built a new home. Gloria was a caring and loving wife and mother. She was filled with a passion for music. She spent a few years as a piano teacher and loved seeing kids share her same passion. Her house was filled with the beautiful sounds of her playing the piano. Her laugh was wonderful and went along with her bubbly, positive attitude. Her face would light up a room and friends and family always enjoyed her smile. Gloria loved to play games with the kids—cards, cribbage and speed. She also loved shopping, entertaining, her sisters and brothers, and being a wife and mother. Gloria was presently employed at Hacker-Nelson in Decorah, Iowa. She was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and helped with the live Nativity Scene this past Christmas.
