Robert A. Olson, age 76, of Decorah, IA, died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 1, 2010 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah with full military honors.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Fjelstul Funeral Home and on Friday after 8:00 A.M.

Robert Arthur Olson was born May 19, 1934 in Litchfield, Minnesota, the son of Roy V. and Margaret (Gray) Olson. He attended Country School in Meeker County, Minnesota through the 8th grade.

Robert was united in marriage to Evangelyn J. Joramo on October 4, 1966 in Oregon, Illinois.

Robert worked on his family’s farm and then entered the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in March 1964. After the service, he started working at Fareway, where he worked in Waverly, Marshalltown, Ames, Carroll and then Decorah’s Fareway store for a total of thirteen years. Then Robert worked for Orkin, Bill’s 66 Station, Olson’s Cab (his own taxi service), Decorah Auto Parts (which became Car Quest) and then at Bill’s 66 Station again. After he retired Robert drove cars for Decorah Auto Center and Decorah Chevrolet.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marian Joramo and Margie Olson.

Robert is survived by his wife, Evangelyn of Decorah; two brothers, Victor L. (Evelyn) Olson of Litchfield, MN and Arnold E. (Rose) Olson of Kimball, MN; one sister, Ruth Peterson of Litchfield, MN; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family.
